SALT was formed in 1984. We started out small but strong-minded, performing parking lot lighting maintenance and repair. Kathleen and John McCarthy acquired this company in 2008. They expanded the company to include electrical contracting services, new construction, remodeling, and sign installation and repair.
Our commitment to customer satisfaction and community service, combined with prompt, professional service, has been rewarded with strong growth in our business. SALT has been certified as a Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) by the state of Texas. We represent the best of Central Texas when it comes to residential and commercial electrical and lighting service.
Apprentices are trained at the Central Texas Chapter of the Independent Electrical Contractors (Centex IEC), the premier education, training & mentoring program for contractors & electricians.
Kathleen boasts extensive experience in aviation, finance, transportation, and the construction industry. She enjoys building our brand, marketing, and giving back to the community through SALT and church. Her greatest passion is her 10 grandchildren, and is more than happy to tell you about them!
John has 34 years of management experience in areas of finance, transportation, aviation, and construction. He enjoys the challenges of owning, operating, growing, and leading SALT to become the best in the industry. John loves playing racquetball, golf, and sailing. He also enjoys reading, his 10 grandchildren, and his wife of 39 years,
Justin has 14 years of project management experience in the electrical and construction industry. His focus at SALT is to build our commercial service department into a world-class organization ensuring commitment to our customers’ expectations. Justin loves spending time with his wife and 3 children, BBQing, playing golf, and watching football, Hook ’em!
Brendan has 14 years of experience in the electrical industry, moving from a lighting technician to an electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical instructor for pressure control equipment in the oilfield. When he’s not busy delighting our clients, Brendan loves spending time with his wife and two girls, playing soccer, golfing, BBQing, and supporting the Austin FC, Verde Listos!
Melina LOVES all things SALT. Her focus is the care department, marketing, recruiting, and building SALT’s culture to be salt and light to the world around us. She loves people, especially our team members and is always found with a big smile. Outside of SALT, she is actively involved with her church, her husband Justin and 3 children, cooking, hosting get-togethers at her home, and spreading awareness for her daughter’s rare condition.

Giving Back – We take giving seriously. As a growing business, we feel blessed to be in a position to give back to the communities that have supported us over the decades. We began the Light the Steeple Project as a way to help our area shine bright. Each year, SALT donates the materials and labor needed to install steeple lights for a deserving Central Texas church. We are always looking for new ways to give back to the communities that give us so much.
Recycling – At our Pflugerville location, you will find supply and service certified recycling barrels for fluorescent and HID lamps and ballasts. Many people don’t know how to dispose of their electrical items properly. Feel free to contact SALT for further information on our recycling program
How did we come up with the name SALT for a lighting and electrical company? Well, there’s a story behind that.
The name has a connection with our mission statement and our belief in Christian Values. We want to be salt and light in the world.
