Safety Alarm Installation & Repair

People are worried about their safety when they are travelling or when they are outdoors. However, home and business owners often don’t consider that there are safety concerns to be monitored when indoors as well.

Two of the main health and safety concerns that require early detection for survival are smoke and carbon monoxide (CO). Protect your residential space from these invisible threats with smoke and CO detector installation and repair services from SALT.

Smoke Detectors

Fire safety is not to be taken lightly. It is common sense and the law that each property has properly functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Based on the size of the property, it may be required to have multiple safety alarms. When we are asleep or a property is vacant and at its most vulnerable to fire hazards, it’s imperative to have a working and correctly installed smoke and CO alarms.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, in about a quarter of all house fires, a smoke alarm was present, but it was not functioning, and therefore did not sound. Don’t make that mistake!

  • Test your smoke alarms every 30 days by pressing the “test” button and waiting for the alarm to sound.
  • Replace all smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older.
  • Make sure there are working smoke alarms on every level of the home and outside of every sleeping area.

Carbon Monoxide

Carbon monoxide is tasteless, colorless, and odorless, meaning that it is undetectable to the naked eye, nose, or taste buds. Unfortunately for us, it’s also toxic and potentially deadly. People inhabiting a properly with unhealthy levels of carbon monoxide may already be experiencing early symptoms including nausea and headache.

Installation & Maintenance Guide

  • At least one smoke and CO alarm are required on each floor of your home, including the basement. Ideally, a smoke and CO alarm would be located outside of each sleeping area.
  • Consider interconnected alarms. When one alarm is triggered, the other alarms follow its lead, alerting everyone in the building to possible danger. Ask us about bed shakers and strobe lights for the hearing impaired.
  • Alarms should be installed at least 10 feet from the kitchen or any cooking appliance to avoid false alarms.
Do not install alarms near windows, door, or ducts that will interfere with their functionality.
  • Never paint or decorate smoke and CO alarms.
Correctly replace batteries at least once a year. The alarm will let you know when the batteries are low by emitting a chirping sound.
  • Consider a smoke alarm with a non-replaceable battery, usually guaranteed to operate for up to ten years.
  • Test your smoke alarms once a month by pushing the “test” button located on the front panel of every device.
